Tamsin Fitzsimmons has dedicated over 16 years to nursing in the Nelson–Tasman region, building her career within the same communities she now teaches. She leads with in-depth experience in general practice, urgent care, and as a Respiratory Clinical Nurse Specialist at Te Whatu Ora, contributing a strong understanding of primary and community health to her role at NMIT. Alongside this, she has supported students as a Clinical Educator, a role that ultimately inspired her move into full-time teaching.
Tamsin is currently completing a Master of Health Science (Nursing) through Massey University and plans to complete her postgraduate study in 2026–2027. She says that continuing her own learning keeps her connected to evidence-based practice and allows her to model lifelong learning for her students.
At NMIT, Tamsin teaches both first- and third-year courses, including Year 3 Family/Whānau and Community as well as Year 1 Health & Wellness and Professional Responsibility. She also works alongside ākonga during their clinical placements, helping them grow their confidence and consolidate their skills in real-world settings.
Outside of work, Tamsin keeps busy with her two boys, aged 15 and 12. Together, they explore the region’s natural environment - venturing out on the water, hiking local hills, and spending time outdoors.
