Leilana Wallace has been a registered nurse since graduating from Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology in 2011. Over the past 14 years, she has worked throughout New Zealand and Australia, primarily in medical and surgical settings. Her clinical background includes colorectal, urology, vascular, breast, and trauma services—experience that provides a strong foundation for supporting students as they begin their nursing journey.
Before joining NMIT, Leilana spent four years working as a practice and community nurse, strengthening her understanding of primary healthcare and day-to-day patient support. She is also completing her Master of Health Science through Ara Institute, continuing to develop her academic and professional practice.
At NMIT, Leilana predominantly teaches in Year 1, covering subjects such as nursing science, interpersonal relationships, and health and wellness. She also works alongside students as a Clinical Educator during their placements, supporting them to apply their learning in real-world environments.
Outside of work, Leilana enjoys spending time with her young family, biking, and exploring the many walking tracks around Nelson–Tasman.
Leilana looks forward to supporting new students throughout their studies at NMIT. Her message to incoming learners: have fun and work hard.
